‘The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap’
I was so excited to see the The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap badge up on a fellow bloggers site a few weeks ago. I had no idea there was such a thing and I so wanted to be a part of it.
Bake and ship cookies out and receive 3 different batches of cookies in return? Um, yes. please.
The hardest part was deciding what cookies to make.
The cookie swap was hosted by Julie and Lindsay this year – and they had over 600 entries! My three recipients were:
Anita @ Confessions of a Foodie
Christine @ Ruminations on Food
I ended up deciding to bake Ginger Spice Cookies. I’m not sure they’re a universally loved cookie, but they are so moist, chewy and full of holiday flavor.
Ginger Spice Cookies
Makes: 36
Time: 45 minutes + chilling
Ingredients:
2 eggs, room temp
2C white sugar
1/2C molasses
1 1/2C shortening
4C AP flour
4t baking soda
2T cinnamon
1T cloves
1T ginger
Turbinado sugar
Directions:
Heat shortening in a pan over medium heat until fully melted. Let cool.
Beat together eggs, sugar, molasses and cooled shortening.
In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Then add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in batches.
Once mixed, chill for at least 4 hours. I usually leave them overnight.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 and grease baking sheets.
Roll the dough into balls and then roll them in turbinado sugar (or colored sugar sprinkles).
Place the balls on your prepared sheet, a couple inches apart if possible. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes and watch the time carefully! You really don’t want to overcook these, 10 minutes is plenty.
Cool on a wire rack and store in an airtight container to keep them chewy and moist.
Even though I have three delicious batches of cookies from other cookie swappers, I’m glad I have to make these cookies again tonight to give to family – they’re one of my favorites!
In the meantime, I’ll be snacking indulging on Sneaky Snickers Cookies from Veronica, Chocolate and Butterscotch Chip Cookies from Julie and Cranberry Chocolate Biscotti from Hannah.
They were all so good!! Thank you so much ladies!!

What a festive and fun idea, this cookie swap!
I’m going to try your ginger-spice cookies. I really enjoy the flavor of ginger in both cooking and baking and can imagine these must not only smell wonderful, they gotta taste amazing too! Thanks for sharing!
